ABSTRACT

I opened my book with some recordings in a diary, written whilst considering this text, of ideas about knowing, some o f my immersion in a swimming pool, listening and watching others swimming and giving children instructions about swimming and jumping into water. I reflected on this experience as I swam, con sidering how I might have learnt myself, with my father. As I swim there is always father brought back from the dead in memory to my side, swimming fellow, taking us back decades. This is a current experience and part of my per sonal knowing that, as N esbit’s wom an’s voice says, I may think will be lost when I too am dead.
