ABSTRACT
Part I of this book has identified some of the patterns to be found in the ways children are routinely described. In this second part of the book, I aim to draw out more explicitly what I see as the connections between children, language and society. Chapter 4 deals primarily with how research has illuminated particular kinds of links between children and language, and Chapter 5 adopts a more theoretical approach to exploring the links between language and the social world.
