ABSTRACT

The design of a WC, a urinal and a wash basin should provide a surface that is smooth, non-absorbent and easily cleaned. Separate toilet facilities should be provided for males and females unless each WC compartment is intended to be used by one person at a time, is a separate room and has a door that can be secured from inside. The lay-out of the appliances within the toilet including the peripheral fittings such as hand dryers, towel cabinets, disposal bins, sanitary towel and condom dispensers and mirrors should be considered and arranged to allow adequate circulation area. Suitable and sufficient washing facilities, including showers if required by the nature of the building use, are to be provided at easily accessible places. A trap or water seal should be fitted at all points of discharge into the drainage system to prevent foul air from entering the building.
