– Islamic Cities of the Middle East

The addition of this chapter enables the third edition of this book to conclude with a full-circle return to Iraq (ancient Mesopotamia), among other countries of the Middle East, where the history of urban form originated with the cities of the Sumerian civilization. I It also serves to bring our subject up to the 1960s and 1970S in respect of those Islamic States whose modern, industrial age urban transformations had awaited full availability of their national oil revenues.
