ABSTRACT

Economic plant production includes all forms of cropping, grazing, and forestry in the widest sense. The variety of such activities and of the terrain they occupy is almost infinite. Terrain evaluation aims to optimize a match of the two. It must take account both of the natural controls on the growth of plants and animals, and of those imposing technological limitations on land management. All must be within an economic context. The terrain forms the natural framework within which cropping and marketing decisions are made.
