ABSTRACT

Any discussion about housing for older people should recognise that most live in their own homes and not in any form of institutional care. There has been little change since 1948. Approximately 90 per cent live in ordinary accommodation either owned by themselves or rented, 5 per cent live in their own home in sheltered housing with a resident warden and 5 per cent live in some form of institutional care - mainly old people's homes or hospitals.
