InAugust1945,twoatomicbombsweredroppedontheJapanese citiesofHiroshimaandNagasaki.Thisiswithoutanydoubtoneof themostmemorableeventsoftwentieth-centuryhistory,arguably evenofhumanhistoryingeneral.Thenumberofdeathsinflicted inasplitsecondwasunprecedentedinhistory,andthewayin whichthevictimsdied-inconsequenceofanuclearblast-was technicallydifferentfromanythinghumanshadexperiencedbefore.Theseterribleeventsareunforgettable,certainly,butarethey aturningpointinhistory?
