ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book aims to define small works and its component subgroups in definitive terms as a necessary precursor to the later exploration of the facets of its management. It highlights some of the considerations in framing a small works procurement and management approach. The book provides a brief treatment of the decision factors underpinning the decision to go for in-house or external procurement and management of the workload. It shows that the choice of procurement route constitutes one of the most important influences on the ultimate success or failure of the individual job. The book presents the types of contractor available to carry out small works on behalf of the client. It discusses the management supervision and control, in terms of ensuring that the goals and objectives are realised to their maximum extent.
