ABSTRACT

The requirement for sectional completion was for the process shop to be completed within thirty-six weeks, with the laboratory completed within forty-eight weeks. The amended network shows that, in fact, labour moved across to the laboratory during a waiting time on the process shop, and then back again to allow the progress achieved to happen. The pause was enough to raise the possibility of rescheduling a whole string of elements to put the laboratory ahead, but this would have thrown the whole sectional completion sequence into difficulty later. The extra time incurred owing to the increased work content in the process shop annexes has also been included, largely in elements A and G. Element A of the process shop is lengthened only because of its increased work content, whereas element B and those following become just subcritical. When being urged to keep up progress, the contractor might have considered introducing a second gang to double his workforce on an element.
