ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the rehabilitation of privately owned, rented blocks of flats and is given as narrative only without calculations, as for the study immediately preceding. The flats in each block were to be vacated successively and rehabilitated before the next block was released to the contractor. The tenants from the first block were to move to alternative accommodation, the succeeding groups were to move into renovated flats and, finally, the first group was to move into the last block handed back. The architect contended that the employer had acted to mitigate the contractor's loss by bringing forward flats in block E and that the availability of flats in block F further helped. In the case of block F, the employer again managed to move tenants out early, so making four flats available to the contractor three weeks ahead of due time.
