ABSTRACT
This chap ter considers practical experience o f scoping and public participation in relation to four similar holiday village developm ents for which ESs were p repared by Cobham Resource Consultants (CRC). The statem ents were p rep ared in 1988 for a site in the Cotswold W ater Park in G loucestershire, in 1991 for a site n ear M arket W eighton in H um berside, and in 1993 for a site near Penrith in Cum bria. Each p lanning application was approved. A fourth statem ent for a site near C arthorpe in N orth Yorkshire was p repared in 1990 bu t never subm itted.
