ABSTRACT

Ireland have been prepared to fight to ensure that politics will be conducted within their framework rather than accept the framework proposed by the others. For instance, those who rejected a British framework, the minority in Northern Ireland, did not simply accept defeat as part of the political process but maintained their allegiance to an all-Irish political framework in which they feel part of the national majority. Even though many may feel ambivalent about parts of their allegiance, they feel bound to choose.
