ABSTRACT
The former Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors has prepared a form of subcontract for use with the institution of civil engineers Conditions of Contract, sixth edition on civil engineering projects. The subcontractor will be deemed to have full knowledge of the provisions of the main contract, other than details of the main contractor’s pricing. Subcontractors must generally observe the same site hours as the main contractor. A subcontractor should commence work on site within 10 days, or other period that is agreed in writing, of receipt of the contractor’s written instructions. Subcontractors must comply with the instructions from the engineer and the engineer’s representative. All authorised variations to subcontract works are valued in accordance with the rules for the valuation of variations that are used in the main contract. Subcontractors must complete their work prior to the substantial completion of the main works.
