ABSTRACT
Date and publication. Spoken early February 1682 (the first recorded performance of the play was on 4 February (LS )). The poems were first printed in a folio half-sheet headed A Prologue Written by M r Dryden, to a New Play, calľd, The Loyal Brother, & c and published by Tonson (no date, but Luttrell dated his copy (now in the Huntington) 7 February 1681/2). They were then printed anonymously with the play The Loyal Brother or the Persian Prince. A Tragedy, published by William Cademan in 1682 ( T C May), dedicated to the Duke of Richmond. The present text follows Tonson’s publication.
