ABSTRACT

Date and publication. Probably written early in 1684. The poem survives uniquely in Leeds UL Brotherton Collection MS Lt 66 (see plates 4 and 5). It was first printed by John Barnard and Paul Hammond in T L S 25 May 1984 586. The MS is a MS Latin grammar by Lewis Maidwell, written in a fair copy by an immature hand, and probably intended to be shown to prospective patrons of Maidwelľs school. D .’s is the first commendatory poem, and is followed by one from Nahum Tate.
