ABSTRACT

Farm incomes, by contrast, did not tell so grim a story in the first years of the Nazi regime. Much of the agrarian sector saw a growing surplus. In 1932-3, the excess of sales over expenses had fallen to 0.5 billion Reichmarks. By 1934-5, it had risen to 2.3 billion Reichmarks with the aid of higher prices, debt relief measures and tax cuts. Unfortunately, the pattern was not maintained for long.
