ABSTRACT
In the chapters covering timber, steel, brickwork and concrete, British Standards have been used as references, some based on the elastic method and some on the limit state method of structural design. These standards cannot be used in other European countries. However, Eurocodes can. The purpose of this chapter is to inform the reader of the European situation and to introduce the concept of Eurocodes.
