A floor structure must fulfil several functions, including the following design considerations:
1. Provision of a uniform level surface. 2. Sufficient strength and stability. 3. Exclusion of dampness from the inside of a building (ground
floor). 4. Thermal insulation (max. 0.45 W/m2 K). 5. Sound insulation (in flats). 6. Resistance to fire. 7. Compatibility with the surface finish.
