Research into statistical education
In contrast to other chapters in this book where the results of research studies are cited in order to illustrate or support other points, this chapter concentrates on the actual nature of the research. A number of research studies will be outlined in order to show the sort of directions that research into statistical education has been, and is, taking. The examples given, which are grouped into sections according to statistical topic, should not be considered to be a comprehensive review of all relevant research in the area. Although the findings of the studies may themselves be of inherent interest, it is intended that the reader should also begin to gain a critical appreciation of the research methodology adopted. The examples given here and elsewhere in this book may also act as stimuli for those readers who want to undertake their own research studies.
