DOING STATISTICS If students are to learn to do statistics, then they need to learn to do ‘real’ statistics. Firstly, we want to make it clear that doing ‘real’ statistics is not represented by the sort of ‘Have data, will analyse’ approach common among students in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and outlined in Figure 7.1.
