ABSTRACT

In addition, the Nazification of the curriculum, the dismissal of Jewish and other academics unacceptable to the regime, and restrictions placed on academic freedom and the range and nature of scholarship, transformed the universities into much smaller and narrower institutions. The Hitler Youth Boys of 10-14 were recruited into the Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ), and were then organised in the Hitler Youth between the ages of 14 and 18. The League of German Girls of 10-14 were recruited into the Jungmadelbund, and were then organised in the League of German Girls between the ages of 14 and 18. Numbers of theology students declined throughout the 1930s. Both Protestant and Roman Catholic theology were affected. By 1940 the Nazis were able to question the justification for the continued existence of independent theology faculties. Nazi students agitated against the continued existence of theology faculties.
