ABSTRACT

The General Provisions of the byelaws contain a number of interpretations of terms used. These are not exhaustive and generally interpretations of other terms set out in BS 4118. This chapter provides the byelaw interpretations with some interspersed notes and diagrams. The application of byelaw, regarding use of faulty water fittings and appliances. depends upon the circumstances which prevail in each case. Leakage may be detected by the undertakers’ byelaw or waste control inspectors and a notice served to rectify matters. Similarly, a notice might be issued where water quality has become impaired or is likely to be affected e.g. as a consequence of the use of temporary attachments (such as hoses or anti-splash tubes) or the absence of suitable covers to storage cisterns.
