ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the byelaws related to taps for drawing drinking water. In every premises to which byelaw 96 applies, a draw-off tap convenient for drawing drinking water shall be connected to a service pipe; or a pump delivery pipe drawing water from a service pipe; or distributing pipe drawing water exclusively from a storage cistern. This byelaw applies to every premises to which the undertakers supply a separately chargeable supply of water for domestic purposes, not being premises to which section 57 of the Factories Act 1961 or section 11 of the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963 apply. According to this byelaw, in an installation in a new single dwelling, new commercial or industrial premises, and wherever else reasonably practicable, a pipe leading to a mains drinking water tap shall be connected directly to the supply pipe prior to any water softener.
