ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the byelaws for prohibition of installation of pipes in contact with contaminating materials. According to byelaw 5, no supply pipe, distributing pipe or otner water fitting shall be laid or installed in or on, or pass into or through any foul soil, refuse or refuse chute, ash pit, sewer, drain, cesspool, or any manhole connected with any such sewer, aram or cesspool. According to byelaw 6, no supply pipe, distributing pipe or other water fitting made of any material which is susceptible to contamination of the water in that pipe or fitting, shall be laid or installed in a place or position where such permeation or deterioration occurs, or is reasonably likely to occur. Substances leached from materials of construction of pipes, cisterns or other water fittings in contact with water must not adversely affect water quality at the kitchen tap or drawn from cisterns storing water for drinking or culinary purposes.
