ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the byelaws related to prevention of waste from, or contamination by unsuitable or improperly installed water fittings. According to byelaw 51, no water fitting which conveys water supplied by the undertakers for domestic purposes shall be made wholly or partially of, or incorporate, or be lined or coated with, any material or substance which contaminates, or is likely to contaminate, such water by altering its colour, odour, taste or composition. The requirements of byelaws 53 and 54 will be accepted as being satisfied if pipes and fittings are installed in accordance with British Standards 6700. The requirements of byelaw 54 will be accepted as being satisfied in respect of removal of air locks if an installation has been designed to facilitate the removal of air during filling and pipes have a slight rise to a cistern, vent pipe or an automatic air release valve and should, wherever possible, fall to draw-off points.
