ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses byelaws related to waterclosets and urinals. Byelaw 74 requires every watercloset pan to be supplied with water from a flushing cistern or trough of the valveless type which incorporates siphonic apparatus. Byelaw 74(a) requires that only flushing cisterns with siphonic discharge apparatus shall be used. Byelaw 75 to 79 are intended gradually to phase out cisterns designed to give a nominal flush of 9 litres or those designed to give dual flush whether in domestic dwellings or elsewhere. Byelaw 81 requires provision of instructions to the users of dual flush cisterns. Byelaw 84 prevents any connection other than a flushing pipe to a watercloset pan or a urinal. It has the effect of preventing the discharge from a warning pipe to these appliances except so as to cause considerable nuisance to users.
