ABSTRACT

The law and legal processes in the UK have evolved over hundreds of years and the right of the Sovereign to make and administer the law has been split into two, Parliament and the Judiciary with, in general, Parliament predominant. The two types of law are:

1. Statute law follows from Acts of Parliament and statutory instruments (enacted from the power of Parliament), including European Community laws. These are known as statutory sources and take precedence over other laws.
