The addicts' views of drug services
In seeking to understand the process through which individuals are able to overcome their dependence upon illegal drugs, it is important to look at their experience of those services that have been provided to help them in that endeavour. Over the last 10 to 15 years there has been a major growth in consumerism within the health and social services and it is now commonplace for these services to obtain the views of their clients and to include these in service planning. Despite this, there have been relatively few attempts to obtain drug users' views of the services provided to them. In this chapter we look at our recovering addicts' views and experiences of the services with which they had been in contact.
