ABSTRACT
S. drafted this fragmentary evocation of a lovers’ tryst on f 12r of Nbk 12. He at first wrote with a badly sharpened quill, which formed some words indistinctly, then made revisions with a sharper one. Only ll. 3, 4 and 8 of the original 248draft, together with the words added with the sharper quill, were left uncancelled, though the placement of the later revisions seems to indicate an intention to recuperate ll. 1 and 2 at least. Nor is the indentation pattern consistently followed. The reconstruction of a text from an uncompleted draft left in so rough a state is necessarily conjectural. In Huntington Nbks, for example, Forman gives the first two lines as ‘Sweet my little love/Our stolen embraces’.
