Examination of the nervous system
Summary Neurological presentations are notoriously difficult to assess as the symptoms may have an organic and/or psychological origin. A clear and comprehensive history is vital in assessing these clients and the practitioner should be holistic in their approach. Identifying red flag markers and any changes from the patient’s normal health status should prompt the practitioner to explore in greater depth. An abbreviated neurological clinical examination may be a good starting point, and any anomalies discovered will support a referral to a specialist.
