ABSTRACT

Facts or purported facts are given additional weight by the use of attribution. For example, don’t say “the Hawks baseball team will be looking to make a deal before the trade deadine” without some sort of attribution. Say “Hawks General Manager Joe McMurphy says he’s looking to make a deal for some pitching help before the trade deadline” and it carries a lot more veracity. If you think the Hawks will be looking for pitching help, be sure to say just that in the story, indicating that it’s your opinion.
