ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapter of this book. The book discusses the nexus between water systems, energy systems and agricultural production systems get played out at various levels. It evaluated the effectiveness of NREGA vis-a-vis its generating rural employment and ensuring local water security. It explains the case of hydropower projects, developing a proper mechanism to share the project benefits with the affected local population and communicating the same to take them is part of a larger confidence building measure. It removes the restrictions on issuing permits for drilling new energized wells on West Bengal's agriculture, energy economy and water ecosystems. It shows the rising cost of diesel increase the cost of well irrigation for diesel well owners to an extent of 32" in south Bihar and 18" in eastern UP from 1990-2006.
