ABSTRACT

Three decades of sustained and very impressive economic growth, a determined effort to modernise militarily, an assertive confidence to participate in multilateral institutions and organisations as also to contribute to the international community's efforts to resolve conflicts and, above all, an ever increasing capability and willingness to engage people across the borders socially, culturally and also politically, are the signs of China's rise. This has been acknowledged and admired all over the world and South Asia is not, and cannot be an exception in this respect. South Asia is among the closest geographical regions of China, and has been heavily impacted by the rise of China. It is of interest and relevance to understand how the South Asian countries are looking at China's rise.
