ABSTRACT
The US attack on Iraq is best explained not as a product of national interest (a category which includes the desire for material gain), but as the result of an odd mixture of two other, apparently conflicting forces: fear and power. While most people describe the US policy in terms of the former, it is the other two factors, which are the main driving force behind this war.
