ABSTRACT

As we learned from Chapter 3, the relationship between culture and communication is not straightforward, rather it is multifaceted, personal and intertwined. Accordingly, E.T. Hall (1959: 186) famously states that ‘Culture is communication and communication is culture’. To be an effective intercultural communicator, it is essential to understand the process of human communication and the impact of cultural dimensions and power in communicative events that take place within a particular environment.
