ABSTRACT

This case study involves a married man who had developed a particularly strange sexual perversion, which meant that he became sexually excited by prams and handbags. This perversion had become so marked that he had been arrested on numerous occasions charged with causing malicious damage to prams and/or handbags. This is arguably a less well-known case study but people often find this one of the most fascinating of all, probably due to the bizarre sexual fetish that is involved. The patient was a 33-year-old married man who was registered as an outpatient at a psychiatric hospital. The patient's problem involved a bizarre sexual attraction to prams and handbags. The classical conditioning treatment involves the injection of a drug called apomorphine, which produces sickness or nausea. The prams or handbags were produced soon after the drug was given, when the nausea occurred. The use of aversion therapy raises a number of serious problems that need to be addressed.
