ABSTRACT

The word Zulu means “heaven” or “sky”. The language is a Nguni subgroup of the Bantu group of the Benue-Congo subfamily of the Niger-Congo family of languages. It is spoken by around nine million people throughout South Africa, primarily in Zululand, S.A. and Northeastern S.A. Zulu is inclusive of many Afrikaans and English words. Most interestingly, like Xhosa, Zulu uses the unique “click” sounds.
