ABSTRACT
Give students explicit directions for any and all tasks. This involves telling them exactly what to do, how to do it, when to do it, why to do it, how much to do, how well to do it, etc. Don't assume that they know or that they'll figure it out. Students resent having to "figure out" what it is the teacher expects of them.
