ABSTRACT

These volunteers did not take up positions offered to them to participate in the 15,000 strong volunteer programme. The pre-event attrition issue is raised again by Nichols and Ralston (2009) who point out that for volunteers the long wait between their interview for the London Olympic Games and their role offer was de-motivating. It was also frustrating for some as it appeared that little effort was made to match their backgrounds to the roles offered.
