PLANNING COMMUNITY-BASED EXPERIENCES AND SCHOOL-TO-WORK
This chapter is organized into four major sections. The first presents a general overview of community-based activities. The second presents the major forms of community-based experience programs along with each of their school and community-based components and characteristics. The third presents a discussion of the partnerships that are so essential to successful programs. Each community-based type of program requires students to go into the community and to interact with people who are willing to provide them with the experiences they desire. For this to happen, schools must establish communications and partnerships with businesses and industries and other community organizations. The fourth section presents connecting activities designed to form connections between schools and the community organizations.
