WHY APPLIED, CONTEXT-BASED, AND COMMUNITY-BASED HIGH SCHOOL REFORM?
This chapter provides a review of how applied, contextbased, community-based education has evolved and a rationale for why it has become a central focus of educational reform. Those who are already familiar with why such reforms are desired, might go directly to Chapter 2. Chapter 2 presents an overview of a variety of current school reform formats that embrace these reform elements (e.g., career majors, Tech Prep, schools-within-schools, magnet schools, and academies). Those who are also familiar with the differences and similarities between the various school reform formats but want to know how to implement them might go directly to Chapter 3. Beginning with Chapter 3, the reader will find chapters containing proven procedures and techniques for implementing these new formats.
