ABSTRACT

With the curriculum guide developed, you should be ready to develop long-term plans for the students with disabilities. A long-term plan shows what you will teach over a single semester or year. Though most teachers do not develop long-term plans, such plans have several advantages. They help make decisions about the focus of units and the time allotted, thus serving as a global view of the term’s work. They aid in securing materials in a timely fashion. They assist in designing instruction so that the students have access to the curricula planned for them. They help you communicate with parents about the curriculum. And they serve as the next key step in developing interesting units for your students. This chapter explains one process for developing a long-term calendar for students with disabilities. Other processes may work just as well.
