ABSTRACT

The worker of the 21st century, whether blue collar or professional, must be a life-long learner who is able to adapt to ever-changing demands. This means that our job is changing from helping students become content area informed to helping them become content area literate. In this chapter, we define this critical difference, tell specifically how our teaching needs to change, and present a blueprint for planning content area literacy instruction within the block schedule.
