ABSTRACT

The real world is not divided into stand-alone subjects, but rather provides an integration of a variety of content. For example, when choosing retirement options, you must apply mathematics to calculate potential returns, understand economics to realize the volatility of the markets, and be able to research the history of the performance of various stock options. Or, at the very least, you must comprehend this array of information as an investment broker presents it to you! The understanding of all of these integrated areas provides the ability to make an informed decision. Students must be granted this experience in the classroom in order to be better prepared for life outside the classroom and to be prepared for the career world. Authentic Learning Experiences create the context in which interdisciplinary curriculum designs make strong connections to prior knowledge and the world in which students live. The experiences also create a connection to community and career contexts.
