ABSTRACT

Matching Mania is a strategy that can be applied in multiple ways. As a pre-assessment tool, this strategy allows teachers to gauge where students are in their understanding of a particular topic or skill, their use of the associated vocabulary, and their development in the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Embedded in formative instruction, this strategy becomes a quick and easy transitional activity to check students’ understanding of specific content or skills. Matching Mania can also be used as a tool to help students build fluencies. It could even be used as a nonthreatening way to engage students in intervention for skills in which they have gaps.
