In times of crisis, no nation rallies like the United States. In desperate times, quite often schools are at the epicenter of relief efforts. Reports from the relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 noted that the combined support received from schools exceeded that of any major corporation. More than $10 million was raised through bake sales and other community outreach programs organized by students and schools. This indicates what is possible for students and schools when there is a shared belief in a cause.
