ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the elements of effective questionnaire analysis and provides an overview of tools to carry out the analysis. When creating a questionnaire, one needs to make sure the content and design facilitate effective data analysis and effective use of the results. Tools for creating effective analyses range from simple spreadsheet applications to more complex statistical or custom database applications. Spreadsheet applications are common to most desktop computer software installations, and they are familiar to most computer users. Statistical analysis software applications, such as Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), provide data security and automated statistical analysis. More sophisticated analysis is available with statistical applications. The potential for error becomes narrower when using statistical analysis applications, but the analysis applications may be offset by a learning curve with functionality that is not fully used to its potential in relation to the overall cost.
