ABSTRACT

How can we best support teaching and learning? There are myriad ways to answer this question, from rhetorical to pragmatic. Throughout The Supportive Learning Environment: Effective Teaching Practices we have built a bridge between research and practice on essential attributes that do, in fact, support quality teaching and student success. In this concluding chapter for Part I, we follow a different path in emphasizing how we can support teacher quality. Specifically, we emphasize the roles of school leaders and teachers, themselves, in building success; we then turn our attention to how teacher quality supports our ultimate educational goal—student success. The following questions relate to how and why we can and should provide the proper support mechanisms for teachers and students:

How can principals support teacher effectiveness?

How can teachers support their own quality?

How can teachers support student success?
