Tools for Professional Growth

The most effective school leaders recognize the importance of nurturing and supporting the continued growth of their staff, and of themselves. Traditional forms of professional development include meetings or workshops where “experts” share their knowledge and exhort people to adopt new practices. More contemporary models recommended by Learning Forward ( www .learningforward .org), formerly the National Staff Development Council, focus on improving the learning of all students by organizing school employees into learning communities or teams that focus on their own learning in support of school improvement.
