ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the framework of the Effective Principal Tracker, and provides ways to integrate best practices into the daily repertoire of the school principal. The Effective Principal Tracker provides a framework that helps school principals change their daily work habits, and at the same time shift the culture toward expectations and processes that improve teaching and learning. Using the Tracker is an easy and natural process because it incorporates short-term and long-term goals that can be integrated into any daily planner system. It begins with the establishment of annual goals that are broken down into monthly goals, weekly plans, and scheduled activity on one’s daily calendar. When writing the goals, use the SMART format and take into consideration the subcomponents of each part of the Tracker. Goal setting is a skill, and the only way to get better is to practice.
